It's Time For SUMMER CAMP 2013!

Remember when you were a little younger than you are now, and you went off to summer camp?  There were great friends and fun activities just for you, and at the end of it all you had some pretty neat things to take home to give to your family and friends, or keep for yourself... Remember?  If you never went to summer camp, here is your chance to find out about the fun.

This summer, Yarn Cravin' is having Summer Camp for you!  Each week there are new workshops for you to participate in as you desire, and the cost of each workshop is only $5!  There are both knitting and crochet workshops.  You provide your materials, and in a few cases, there may be an additional pattern cost ($2-3).

Here are photos of what you can make this summer!  Please stop by Yarn Cravin' to sign up and pay for your summer fun soon.

Happy 6th Anniversary!

Can you believe it? This week Yarn Cravin' will celebrate six years of providing yarn, knitting supplies, classes, and great customer service to the Northwest Ohio area. Dale Ann and Bobbie greatly appreciate everyone who has shopped with Yarn Cravin' over the past six years; the shop couldn't continue without YOU! Every year that a locally-owned, small business stays open is a success for all of us.
There are anniversary festivities planned of course, and here are the details:

*February 12-14th all RED and PINK yarns are 25% off. Stock up for a special project!

*On Saturday, February 16, from 10:30-4:30, join everyone in Bowling Green at the BG Library for a day of knitting and social time. There's more room for gathering together there. From 11:00-2:00 a Mitred Square class will be offered for any who are interested. Bring yarn and needles. Instructions will be provided. Sock yarn mini's will be available for sale. If you have ever had interest in starting a mitred square blanket, scarf or shawl, this is a great time to get started! Don't miss out on the fun!

There are some goodies at Yarn Cravin' that you might not have noticed lately. Are you adventurous or looking for a new challenge? This 10" loom might be just your thing! Use yarn in your stash to make scarves, shawls, placemats, table runners... The sky is your limit! DSC_0847

We now carry Eucalan wool wash in the shop. This is wonderful for your hand knits. There are scented and unscented from which to choose. DSC_0846

Looking for a little something special? This yarn from Dream In Color is part of the yarn of the month line. There is a limited amount sent each month, but this one is delicious! DSC_0848

Need some bling? What about yarn with some sequins already added? Envision a simple shawl made extra special with the sparkle... Hint hint, one of those is PINK! DSC_0850

Try your hand at needle felting and make an adorable little critter for your desk, or a gift for a friend. These Wool Pets are so cute you won't stop at one! DSC_0748

Be sure to check the Yarn Cravin' Website for new additions to the class schedule. And don't forget that Market Day is March 23 at the Bowling Green Fairgrounds from 9:00 to 3:00.

A new yarn is MayPole, a synthetic boucle, that is super soft. DSC_0701

Some old favorites now have new colors, like Boboli and Angel... DSC_0705 DSC_0698

Summertime, Summertime

June and July have flown by in blur of heat and record temperatures but there have been some fun goings' on at Yarn Cravin' in spite of heat.In June we celebrated World Wide Knit In Public (WWKIP) Day, complete with contests, prizes, and companionship.DSC_0511

Thank goodness for shade and cool drinks that day!

We also had future knitters in attendance.

A very popular pattern on Ravelry right now is the Beekeeper's Quilt. It's made from many hexagonal, stuffed "puffs," which are sewn together. Kay H. brought her hexapuffs to work on that day and showed them to us.

Novelty yarns have come back into style and many have expressed a desire to knit a scarf from novelty yarn, but not wanted anything too complicated. Here's the answer:DSC_0528

The ribbon comes with holes already pre-punched for the knitter to knit through. One simply knits a garter stitch scarf to produce the ruffled scarf shown above! Look at the variety of colors and prints:DSC_0527

Yarn Cravin' finally has Kauni Effekt yarn! This yarn is wool, great for socks, or colorwork projects and is famous for its long color repeats. It's flying out of the shop. Yes, we have patterns, also!DSC_0525

We also have Fame Trend sock yarn in a myriad of colors.DSC_0531

July has been consumed by the Sock Marathon, with goals set by many knitters for completion of individual socks. A winner will be announced soon. Everyone who participated wins, though, since so many socks have been finished and now single socks have mates! Way to go, knitters!

Spring and Slumps

DSC_0071

Days like the one shown above make it hard to knit, don't they? Yes, it's early April and everything that blooms in May is already blooming. And there's even a butterfly out already!

I've heard more than one knitter tell me that they are in a slump; that their knitting mojo is gone. How timely that Clara Parkes addressed the very same issue in her online newsletter just this week! She includes ten tips for overcoming "Knitter's Block," as she calls it.

The link to the article is included for you all below. Bookmark it. Print it. Save it. Certainly subscribe to Knitter's Review, which is only sent once a week, and will not send you eleventy-billion advertisements or beg you to buy things you don't want or need. How to Overcome Knitter's Block

If you're in a slump, or want to fondle yarns, patterns, or books to find inspiration, Yarn Cravin' is here for you.
